Charity
Ruth Strauss Foundation
The Ruth Strauss Foundation was set up in memory of Sir Andrew Strauss’s wife, Ruth, who died in 2018 on non-smoking lung cancer.
In her memory, Sir Andrew launched the Ruth Strauss Foundation to; provide emotional support for families to prepare for the death of a parent, and to raise awareness of the need for more research & collaboration in the fight against non-smoking lung cancers.
Ruth felt strongly that all families who are told a parent doesn’t have much longer to live should have easy access to emotional support to get through it together.
Ruth realised there was a need for more collaboration and research into non-smoking lung cancers. The Ruth Strauss Foundation wants to bring people together to progress this, so that the outlook for those with this terrible disease is much more positive.
The Professional
Cricketer’s Trust
The Professional Cricketers’ Trust is a registered charity created to support the life-long health and wellbeing of PCA members and their immediate family.
Today’s game is faster, more competitive, more public and more pressurised than ever before. Even the happiest professional career in cricket means long stretches away from home and financial uncertainty driven by short-term contracts.
The average cricket career comes to an end at the age of just 26.
Few careers carry so much uncertainty as that of a professional cricketer but thanks to the Professional Cricketers’ Trust, past and present players have a vital support network which helps them to prepare for and readjust in the world beyond cricket.
As professional cricket’s leading charity, the PCT offers welfare, education and a helping hand during difficult times. Funding life-changing assistance for players and their closest family, whether the situation is related to their cricket career, or not. From medical care and mental health counselling to preventative educational programmes and help with addiction, the PCT is proud to be there for players when they need it most.
